1) What is a Dietetic Technician?
A Dietetic Technician is a person trained in food and nutrition. Their main job is to assist the Dietitian in various tasks such as:
- developing nutritional care plans
- assessing dietary needs
- helping to educate clients about the connection between food, fitness and health
- developing menus and supervising food production in prisons, day care centers and schools
2) Career Requirements
Below are some basic requirements:
- Complete at least a 2-year associate's degree at a US regionally accredited college or university.
- Registration by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) is desired
- Good administrative and organizational abilities
- Fingerprint clearance may be required by the employer
3) Registration
The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) certify the competency of a dietetic technicians through registration.
To be registered with CDR, you have to pass a Registration Examination.
4) Salary Potential
Earnings vary by geographic location, employment setting, and years of experience.
The average annual salary of a dietetic technician is approximately $30,000.
5) Dietetic Technician Schools
The Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) is the American Dietetic Association's accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as Dietetic Technicians.
The Dietetic Technician program must provide required coursework and at least 450 hours of supervised practice within an academic program leading to an associate degree.
